AN ARTISTS' SHRINE
An offering of hollow 'rocks' made of clay indigenous to the San Joaquin Delta are protected by a handmade paper structure constructed from Delta tules, reeds and sedges.
The project is a convergence of two distinct mediums, clay and paper. At the most basic level, the working materials are dirt and plant fiber. The unifying factor is water. Without water, clay could not be formed into objects and without water, plants could not grow nor paper be made from them. Convergence is an artists' shrine to the fundamental belief that the remnants of the fragile Delta eco-system must be preserved. |
